The Hair Dilemma

I'm reaching out to my peeps here for answers :) David and I have had an ongoing argument about Allie's hair for probably the better part of the last year. Her hair constantly falls in her eyes-it's impossible to keep it out of her eyes unless I put a pigtail up on top or I use a clip. Problem is most of  the time she pulls the clip out and I have to put it back in probably 6-7 times a day. I can't count the number of clips we've lost-good thing they're not expensive!!!! She has beautiful bows but I'm too scared to put them in her hair because who knows where they'd end up and I don't want to take the chance of losing them.

Here's 2 of her unclipped-of course her hair is longer now and a little worse but you get the idea.

This is probably the most recent one I have of her hair in her eyes.

So onto the argument-David thinks we should trim her hair so that it doesn't fall into her eyes. I think it defeats the purpose. I'm trying to get it all to one length and if we trim it then we're going to be back where we are right now in a matter of months again. I asked the girl that cuts the boys hair and she says to wait because her hair hasn't even finished filling in yet from when she was a baby-says girls don't usually get their first haircut until they're between 2-3. David doesn't want to listen to that though-he wants it cut!!

And my clipping tries-they stay put for a while and I redo it even when she takes them out. :)

I refuse to get in the position that I have to keep her hair short-even if it means going through a year or more of having to put up with it in her face and keeping up with clips. So here come you guys-all of you out there with girls what should I do. I've never had to figure out girls hair before other than my own and my boys never had this issue :)

Oh Steph, How I wish I could give you some insight on this as far as girls go, but I can do it from a mom's point. She's very young yet and fighting with her on it is causing you and your hubby stress...trim it a little for now. In a year, you may be able to reason with her more about leaving the clips in. But for now, it's okay. Bangs are cute too. She's such a doll!

If you can handle the clips and pony tails then just keep it longer until it grows. I keep Alex hair short and it still goes in her eyes but I do not want to cut bangs!!

I have no advice, but I think she is SUPER cute even if her hair is in her eyes!

caitlyn has the same issue. and won't leave anything in longer than five seconds. i just brush it out of her face a bajillion times a day, because i am a 'all one length' person. i say leave it. it'll grow!! :0)

I'm right there with you! I wanted to keep Jordyn's hair all one length, but I'm having all the same issues you are. Mark took the boys to get their hair cute one day, and Jordyn came back with bangs. I wasn't thrilled about it, and, like you said, the hair is back in her eyes again within a week or two. Even though Mark got Jordyn's bangs cut, he does not want any other part of her hair cut. I guess no matter what you do, hair grows so it's not forever. Wish I could help. It's hard when you're used to boys. I definitely don't spend enough time trying to help my gal look "girly". :) Boys are so easy in that respect.

trimming it may make it grow faster - and I mean just evening it out, NOT cutting! have you tried the little clear elastics? they are tiny and are hard for kids to get out, that's what I always used when my girls were little:)

Keep growing it...it will all pay off. I hate when Abby's hair is in her face, but she lets me clip it back. Use whatever hair clips stay in best and go from there.

My vote is... don't cut it! Continue to put the clips in and if she takes them out she takes them out. Her hair looks cute in her face! I would hold strong to not cutting it, you are right you will be back in the same boat in a couple of months when it grows back.

Well, my vote is to let it grow! That's what I plan to do with Selah. Her hair doesn't quite reach her eyes yet, but I still keep it clipped or in ponytails most of the time. I'm just not a huge fan of short bangs on little girls. Some girls can pull it off nicely, others can't. Once you cut the bangs, you're kind of stuck with keeping them short for a long time.....

My girls were both bald until age 2, and their hair is still filling in, even Summer's, and she is going to 4 in August. We have the hair in the eyes problem so I always clip it or put it up. I don't want them looking like Dora the Explorer so I refuse to cut it until it's a lot longer. I say hold off on cutting if you can stand it!

Sweet pictures! ♥ I say leave it alone!!! Don't listen to hubby, lol. It will eventually get better I'm sure. Maybe just try trimming the front bang part.

Just my opinions. :)

We went through the same thing... never heard of anyone I know waiting til a girl was 2-3 to cut her hair! We had to even up the back of her hair b/c she had such long hair, but when she was a baby, some of it broke (from laying down) and so it made the sides in the back longer than the back.... so yeah.. we evened that out... and then a bit later we gave her bangs... she usually does good with her clips (we used to do the ponytail thing up top too), but her hair grows a way that even when we have the clip in, her hair behind the clip comes forward... and then that hair is in her face... so yeah.. we just gave her bangs (they go pretty deep back onto her head b/c of how her hair grows) and we still clip back the other hair.. just b/c she has bangs doesn't mean all of her hair has to be short..

Just my opinion.. I'm trying to post more and more pics from the past few months, but you can check my blog and see how Leala's hair is doing.. lol.

I say try to wait it out. Keep trying the clips and let it grow. This is a rough time but in the end, you will be glad you waited.

I have 2 boys, 1 girl.
I say cut it nicely around the face, maybe leave the back (she has some curls??). It will seem fuller, neater, and then everything will grow in nicely...and you don't have to fight with hair in the eyes!

Zoe was 3 when she got her first hair cut. It was so long and fell in her food everytime she ate! Now we are trying to grow it back.

Here's my thought... if you're the one chasing her around, putting her clips back in, and you seriously don't mind, then keep growing it out and re-clipping it until it's all one length. Tell your husband you'll deal with it. But that means you can't complain to him either. : ) haha Or he'll just say, "Cut it!"

My mom kept my hair short all of my childhood because it was easier for her and I looked like a boy!! I want Lilah's hair to be long, but with as much hair as Aidan has (and how thick it is), I think I'm in for a real problem!! I might be needing YOUR advice in a year!

Good luck!!

David isn't going to like this, but DO NOT cut her hair! Keep the clips in as much as you can and other times, just let her push her hair out of her face.

You need to let it grow out and get long enough to tuck behind her ear if she won't wear clips.

David is a boy so he doesn't understand. lol
